The Importance of Easter

Greetings my brothers and sisters in Christ.  May The Lord bless you and pour His grace upon you and your loved ones.

Now that we are well into the season of Lent, we know that we are well on our way to Easter, the day when Christ arose from death by crucifixion.

There is no more significant day in Christianity than Easter.  It is important for us to be reminded of this at least once a year.  Therefore, we feel moved to repeat the reasons why we believe Easter is the most important time in the Christian church.  The following is republished from previous Easter messages:

As believing Christians, we are justified through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Romans 4:24-25 (NRSV) tells us, ''It will be reckoned to us who believe in Him who raised Jesus our lord from the dead, who was handed over to death for our trespasses and was raised for our justification.''

If Jesus had not been raised, our faith would have no basis and we would still be guilty of our sins.  1 Corinthians 15:17, 20 (NRSV) says, ''If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.  But, in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead . . .''

This is the cornerstone of our faith!  Since Christ was raised from the dead, we are saved!  Romans 10:9 (NRSV) confirms this by stating, ''Because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.''

Jesus resurrection gives Christians great hope, as reflected in the message of 1 Peter 1:3 (NRSV), ''Blessed be the God and Father of our lord Jesus Christ!  By His great mercy He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.''

Because Christ was victorious over death and death no longer has dominion over him, we know that we can also be victorious over death through him.  Romans 6:9 (NRSV) states, ''We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.''

Let us continue to celebrate Easter, the great Christian holiday, each and every year of our existence.  Through Easter, Jesus Christ has shown us the way to eternal salvation.

Happy Easter!

May God bless you and your loved ones.

Your humble servant in Christ,

--Richard J. Ferris
