Even in Difficult Times, Give Thanks to The Lord

Greetings, my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.  May The Lord bless you and pour His grace upon you and your loved ones.

Recently, we entered into and are now migrating through one of those particularly difficult times that all of us experience from time to time during the course of our life.  This began with the passing of one of our children, a daughter, who was originally diagnosed with breast cancer approximately 10 years ago.  After undergoing surgery and related treatment, she lived basically cancer-free – as far as we know – for eight years, before being diagnosed with a more aggressive and widespread form of the cancer.

When she was presented with the new diagnosis, she decided she would live whatever time she had remaining on her terms and with The Lord at her side, which – I believe – made her passing more bearable for her, her husband, family and other loved ones.  Of course, it was a difficult time for all who were close to her, but more bearable.

There have been other events that have also been occurring recently that would normally add to our family’s great concern, but we are comforted by the knowledge that The Lord does not allow us to be tested beyond our ability to withstand difficult times.  First Corinthians 10:13 states, “God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted (tested) beyond your strength.”  Hebrews 2:18, also tells us, “For because he himself has suffered and been tempted (tested), he is able to help those who are tempted (tested).”

Although it is several days past our traditional celebration of Thanksgiving, the point we want to emphasize is that it is always proper and important to be thankful for all that The Lord has provided, and – most importantly – all the love He demonstrates to us and our loved ones every day.  Ephesians 5:20 sums it up very nicely, “Always and for everything, give thanks in the name of our lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.”

A belated, but blessed Thanksgiving to all.

May The Lord bless you and your loved ones.

Your humble servant in Christ.
