Do Not Be Concerned About Worldly Possessions

Greetings my brothers and sisters in Christ.  May The Lord bless you and pour His grace upon you and your loved ones in abundance.

Today we want to address an issue that we see and hear more of each day.  The emphasis God's children place upon the material -- worldly -- things of our existence.  We have become aware of this emphasis through conversations with other Christians and through the prayer requests we receive in this ministry.

The Bible tells us in Luke 12:29-31 (NRSV), ''Do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying.  For it is the nations of the world that strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.  Instead, strive for His kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.''

Here Luke is speaking specifically about nourishment, but it can be equally applied to all the material things that seem to possess people -- especially Christians -- today.  He admonishes us to ‘‘instead, strive for His kingdom.''

Granted, there is a difference between concerns regarding nourishment for our bodies and the material things of our wants, but the principle is the same.  If he tells us not to be concerned about those things we need for our existence, how much more do these sentiments apply to things that are worldly and material?

We would do well to adhere to Luke's admonishment to seek instead The Lord and His kingdom.

May God bless you and your loved ones.

Your humble servant in Christ.
